The Scene…

Behind closed doors, 23 grocery sacking experts stood waiting with anticipation to represent their state and take their shot to win the National Grocers Association’s (NGA) title of Best Bagger. Jonathon McGuire (#526, Market Street Amarillo) stood among them ready to represent The United Family and the great state of Texas.

At 5 p.m., with true Las Vegas flare, the doors of the Grand Ballroom in The Mirage in Las Vegas, NV flung open and contest emcee Duff Goldman, of Food Network’s Ace of Cakes fame) came running down the middle aisle to invite the baggers in.

The Contest…

Randomly drawn for their contestant order, heats of up to 5 sackers competed against each other and were given a comprehensive score based on speed, weight distribution, style and organization of their bags.  The 5 best scorers were called back for a final heat and the $10,000 grand prize.  First runner up received $5,000 and the next 3 received $1,000.  The remainder of the contestants not making the top 5 received $250.

The Finish…

Jonathon finished with a career best time of 56 seconds, among the top times between all contestants.  The contestant to Jonathon’s left barely beat him secure the 5th spot for the sack-off with Jonathon finishing barely outside the cut for the finals.

By all accounts, Jonathon represented The United Family with class and style. Jonathon, we are so proud of you and thank you for showing them what we’re all about! Find more information about the contest here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”grid” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” padding_top=”60″ padding_bottom=”60″][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”774,775,776,777,778,779,780,781,782,783,784,785,786,787,788,789,790″ img_size=”large” column_number=”2″ grayscale=”no” images_space=”gallery_without_space”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
