From Apples to Apples: Take a Bite Out of Hunger Donation

From Apples to Apples

Take a Bite out of Hunger Donation

In the heart of the spring season, The United Family embarked on a mission of generosity.

In April, The United Family extended a helping hand to communities across Texas and New Mexico through the annual Take a Bite Out of Hunger™ program. This initiative, now in its 14th year, saw the donation of 50,000 pounds of apples to nonprofit organizations across the two states.

“The United Family feels very blessed to be in the position to make these donations for the fourteenth year in a row,” said Joseph Bunting, produce business director for The United Family. “We know just how important donations of fresh produce can be for food banks and their clients. We are so thankful for this partnership with FirstFruits and the hard work of our team members across Texas and New Mexico.”

With each crisp, juicy apple, a message of compassion was delivered to those facing food insecurity through this annual donation. Over the years, this program has made a profound impact, providing over 600,000 pounds of apples and nourishing more than 167,000 families.

As long standing partners of the program, United Supermarkets and Market Street have worked alongside FirstFruit Farms to address the pressing issue of hunger. Both organizations have helped ensure that essential sources reach those who need them most.

“Washington state has one of the largest apple crops this season,” said Aimee Peters, business development manager of FirstFruits. “We’re proud to partner with retailers like United Supermarkets who participate in our Take a Bite Out of Hunger program to support apple volume movement from our farm to their guests while also investing in their communities to donate fresh apples to neighborhoods that are underserved of fresh, nutritious foods. Cheers to our 14th year of partnership on this program! We appreciate the support.”

Food banks that received donations are:

  • South Plains Food Bank – Lubbock, TX
  • High Plains Food Bank – Amarillo, TX
  • Food Bank of West Central Texas – Abilene, TX
  • Minnies Food Pantry – Dallas, TX
  • West Texas Food Bank – Odessa/Midland, TX
  • Wichita Falls Area Food Bank – Wichita Falls, TX
  • Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico – Clovis, NM
  • Roadrunner Food Bank – Albuquerque, NM

Just like a perfectly ripe apple, our commitment to spreading joy and nourishment is firm.
