The United Family Helps fight HUman Trafficking through Texas Blue Sand Project

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and The United Family is stepping up once again to raise awareness and promote prevention across our communities. Partnering with local organizations One Voice, Voice of Hope, and Open Door, The United Family proudly kicked off the fifth annual Texas Blue Sand Project on the South Plains.

The Texas Blue Sand Project, developed by the Texas Attorney General’s Office, is an initiative that encourages people across Texas to spread blue sand in the cracks of sidewalks as a symbol of how communities can prevent victims from “falling through the cracks.”

To support this mission, The United Family provided free packets of blue sand to Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa community members. On January 23, communities across Texas joined together to spread that sand in sidewalk cracks. Participants were encouraged to share their efforts on social media using #TXBlueSandProject.

“Human trafficking isn’t just a global problem; it’s a local issue as well,” said Angelos Lambis director of fuel & convenience for The United Family. “Through this project and our ongoing efforts, we’re committed to raising awareness and helping prevent trafficking right here at home.”

Voice of Hope’s Matt Duenes emphasized the impact of these partnerships saying, “We are so thankful to The United Family for their ongoing support as we work to help survivors in our community.”
