Celebrating Heritage: Recognizing Trisha Yazzie

As a hardworking, valued team member with eight years at #987 Albertsons Market, Trisha Yazzie brings a unique perspective, enriched by her Navajo (Diné) heritage, to her work and community. Born and raised in Gallup, New Mexico, Trisha carries the values and stories of the Navajo Nation, a heritage that shapes her personal and professional life every day.

“One of the many values I cherish from my culture is embracing where I come from and who I am,” said Trisha. For her, this deep connection is identity and self-acceptance that grew stronger as she matured. Like many in her community, Trisha faced adversity growing up, but these challenges only strengthened her. Today, she stands proud in her roots, grounded in the resilience passed down by her elders. 

A tradition like no other, Trisha’s heart is drawn to the annual runs in the Navajo Nation. Growing up, she remembers running with her father at these events, part of the “Just Move It” program. These runs are more than exercise—they’re a celebration of community, health, and unity that still inspire Trisha as she participates today.

Through her work and life, Trisha advocates the Navajos’ artistic talents and sacred connection to nature. Today, Navajo art, music, and jewelry are celebrated worldwide, and Trisha believes it reinforces a powerful message: that their language, land, and traditions are meant to be celebrated and shared. 

“One of the beliefs that my culture instills as a positive impact on the world today is knowing and believing that we are sacred,” said Trisha. “Either that being with the land, ourselves, our animals, or our language.”

For Trisha, working at Albertsons Market is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to honor her culture, educate others, and embrace the Navajo Nation with her team. Through her story, she reminds us all the beauty of diversity and the strength that comes from embracing our roots.
