United Supermarkets Donates $30,000 to Food2Kids

On May 8, United Supermarkets donated $30,000 to Food2Kids, a local non-profit organization who help children who are subject to food insecurity across the Lubbock community.

The funds specifically support Food2Kids’ Weekend Snack Bag Program, a program designed to bridge the gap from the free lunch on Friday to the free breakfast on Monday morning. Food2Kids serves 2,000 children from 34 different schools in the area.

“We are so excited to support this organization, specifically the Weekend Snack Bag Program,” said Tony Crumpton, chief merchandising officer for The United Family. “Food insecurity continues to be a huge problem across our communities, and organizations like Food2Kids are  working to close that gap. That’s why we’re proud to support their mission.”

Each snack bag costs an average of $4 to fill, averaging to $80 a semester per child. It is Food2Kids desire to eventually serve children all year long. Students in Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, and Lubbock Cooper ISD are eligible for the services Food2Kids provides.

At the check presentation, Lubbock U-Crew team members volunteered and helped pack snack bags!

“We are so grateful for The United Family and their willingness to invest in the children of our community,” said Jerry Ramirez, executive director for Food2Kids. “When school is over, Food2Kids will have packed 63,536 snack bags at the approximate cost of $220,000. Thank you, United, for contributing towards this expense. You are making a huge difference!”
